In 1985, Mary Weeden had a very good idea - to create an association that establishes organized trails, rules and regulations for riders and hikers in the Amwell Valley. This organized approach was a relief to local landowners; no longer would crops be placed in jeopardy by the trampling of horse and rider. The riders were provided with maps and properly cleared trails. Everyone benefited from Mary’s idea – and the Amwell Valley Trail Association (A.V.T.A.) became a reality. Years later Chuck Weeden, a faithful supporter of the Association, passed away and in his honor, the A.V.T.A. created The Charles Foster Weeden III Memorial Scholarship Fund. The A.V.T.A.'s annual Hunter Pace, held on the first weekend in October is our primary fundraiser for the Fund.
